February 18th 2012 Supermarket – art fare in Kulturhuset, Stockholm

Background

It’s All About Everyday Life is a portrait of a daily life we drag ourselves through sustaining a lot of different kinds of pressures. There is so little to protect us and so little to guide us in our maze of choices. There is lot information in our reach that is supposed to facilitate these choices, but how do we know part of it is reliable or even relevant to us in our choice making? In this era of individuality there is so much to choose from and as we age we see the outcome of our choices folding open before us. How can we ever be sure that the choices we made where best possible? Some choose to ignore the whole dilemma of personal choice and lean towards what I would call a single truth policy. The True Finns and the New Christians of this world have a dogma to fallow and narrow path of their chosen truth to walk. All of us others have to create our own stable points where we can hook the tightrope of own daily lives. We have to create our own system of truth that is vulnerable to new findings and never really steady under our feet. We struggle and we do move on every day by the inevitable pull of time. We do fail at times and make bad choices but we are not alone. There are by millions on this globe others that are struggling in their own lives exactly like we are in ours, all of us as vulnerable as each other

Description of the Performance

It’s All About Everyday Life was performed on February 18th 2012 in Supermarket art fare in Kulturhuset Stocholm. It started with me lining all the props on the floor besides me. Then I constructed blinkers for myself out of silver tape and brown cardboard. Equipped with them and teeth brace I slide grey plastic rope down my pants and up my shirt making a loop out of it by connecting the two ends in front of me with silver tape. With all these constructions done I started walking taking care to only step on the rope and only so big steps as I managed to pull the rope from the loop. If I sidestepped I took some pills or made the rope smaller. In the end I only proceeded 8 meters like this to only sit on the floor, strip myself of the blinkers and my glasses and look at people around me panting. 18th 2012 Supermarket art fare in Kulturhuset Stocholm.
