Artist STatement
My artistic practice is driven by my interest in the interconnectedness of future and feelings.
My interest in future tense grew from my personal problems with holding on to any futures. It grew in to an artistic practice that looks in to alternative options of creating futures. A practice that holds the idea of many futures that are dependant on the resources that we have access to. I share it with other artists that think that experience based arenas like art can be spaces to explore what mechanisms impact creations of futures. In my practice I fiercely grasp the hems of fields of Alternative Future Studies and Contempory Art.
In my work opening futures I see feelings and emotions as agents of change. I am interested in what feelings do, in us, on us and between us. Feelings can be both knowledge and action. They tell us important things about our surroundings and they are way for us to be connected to the world. At the same time they happen in our bodies and have cultural dimension. When expressed they have power to change us and our surroundings. Emotions and feeling have a surprisingly penetrating power.
In my material and performative based practice I have worked with feelings such as wonder, anger, empathy and hope. I feel these have strong agencies in connection with futures. In some of my works I have concentrated on one specific feeling and in others I have looked in to how variety of feelings work together. As strategies in my work I have let audiences send post cards to the future or I have let them excavate a soap through daily use for a surprise. In my performative work I have squeezed every possible outcome out of a single bedsheet and in my material based work I have glued pieces of broken glass together to form new forms of resistance. Both in object making and in actions emotions engaged to see the potential in now and create transformation. With these strategies I have made audiences my co-travelers in meandering paths to our future.
I graduated from the MA Fine Art program of Gothenburg University in 2018. My performance works were presented in 2018 in Live-Action Gothenburg, in the 2019 Riga Performance Festival in Latvia, Performance Crossing in Prague and 2023 13Festivaal in Gothenburg.
